Algorítimos de regressão linear são utilizados para prever valores utilizando como base dados históricos.

Ao receber um dado, o algorítimo tenta encaixar dentre os existentes rotulados através das suas características, o que podemos também chamar de Aprendizado Supervisionado (supervised learning).
